Unitronic GmbH was founded in 1984 by Berthold Jourdan, business economist, and Wolfgang Bachmeier, responsible for the engineering in the „Gold City“ Pforzheim in Baden-Württemberg. During the initial years, the company was engaged as an electronic supplier and outsourcing partner in the machinery and equipment sector. The customers come from various fields, for example, dental and other medicinal technology areas, the jewellery industry, textile machines and further industrial branches. A significant role has always been played by speed regulators for motors, temperature controllers and control modules, but complete control modules and devices also belong to the repertoire.
Our objective was then and still remains being in the position to offer our customers complete solutions oriented to the market, as the competence of Unitronic GmbH extends throughout all stages of the product generation, from the development of mechanical components and housings over the electronic circuits, circuit board assembling, laboratory installation and extending to serial devices.
Besides the pure customised development and production, specially developed drills with micro-motorised handpieces were manufactured and marketed under the corporate name Unitronic via a network of specialist dealers. Moreover, the product range for this industrial branch was extended by the inclusion of wax modelling units and spot welding machines etc.
The topic of drills, equipped with micromotors and handpieces paved the way to a new business area. Micro-motorised grinding devices for milling, burring and polishing are essential instruments for dental technician as well as for the goldsmith.
The following diverse modifications and adaptations to the working habits of dental technicians permitted the distribution of an entire model family step by step through the dental trade in Europe. A spot welding machine, which had been modified from the spot welding machine employed in the jewellery industry for dental technology was also successful in many European countries.
The product range was consistently extended throughout the following years. It was followed by a galvanic polishing unit for cobalt- chrome alloys, polymerisation devices and dust extraction systems for dental technical work places.
There were changes in the jewellery industry and in the dental field in 1993 and 1994. The large-scale manufacturers, especially those in the costume jewellery branch, started to outsource their production to a greater extent to the Far East. The costs reforms led to massive cuts in the dental laboratory business.
The recessive trend in these two branches demanded a reaction. It was essential that the know-how gained through out a period of 10 years in the fields of speed control and aspiration technology should continue to flow into the product spectrum. Therefore Unitronic GmbH turned to the area of medical foot care, where micro motor drills with integrated aspiration represented the most important instrument.
Thus the expertise in the development and production of micro motor drills was coupled with the aspiration technology, resulting in the creation of a marketable device for podiatry and foot care that set new standards in suction performance and special filter systems.
Within a short time, Unitronic GmbH became a competent partner of renowned cosmetic and podiatric companies.
Unitronic has played a pioneering role up to the present day with regard to technical standards and customised design with private label creation.
The micro motor drills with aspiration technology were followed by drills with micro-motorised handpieces without aspiration in compact modular design with light-weight handpieces, specially designed for the nail care branch.
The offer of electronic services was likewise expanded in the course of the nineties. The department for customised circuit board assembly and assembling orders, together with the department of podiatric equipment demanded more space, which was achieved in July 1998. The newly built company headquarters in Kieselbronn, near Pforzheim, enabled opportunities for expansion.
We were facing a new challenge. The manner of operation in foot care, res. medical foot care / podiatry was usually different in the various countries. The wet technology prevailed for predominantly medical treatments, i.e. against the devices with integrated aspiration, so devices with spray technology were being demanded. The handpieces exhibited a technical similarity with the handpieces employed in dental practices. A spray mist bound the grinding dust and, at the same time, cooled down the area being treated on the patient.
The spray handpieces used so far came from the jewellery or dental industry, without exception. The spray lines that were guided over the outer handle area did not take the ergonomical aspects into consideration.
The task was to develop a handpiece with an internal air and liquid flow, which would weigh less than 120 g and is less than 25 mm in diameter, but would be equipped with a powerful motor.
Approximately 80 percent of the devices produced bear the names and logos of the customer (private label). However, in various export countries, a brand was desired incorporating a synonym to the product.
The two brands podoTRONIC and beautyTRONIC were created for this clientele and subsequently expanded as a closed European and USA brand.
The successes as a full-service partner in the fields of beauty, cosmetics, podiatry, wellness and medicinal technology were advancing as a result of the continuous product innovations, demanding the need for more space. Hence the second construction stage was set into operation, comprising an area of ca. 1.200 qm, in Summer 2008. A modern manufacturing facility, organised in accordance with production operations, as well as the launching of the SAP (ERP Software), guaranteed the exemplary operation of all the processes.
Injection moulded housings were initiated and developed for the first time, resulting in the creation of a series of nail filing devices both with and without aspiration in future-oriented design. The microcontroller technology with soft touch operation was also planned universally in this segment.
In the light source above the treatment zone, it is beneficial if the tip of the handpiece is equipped with an integrated lamp. The specifications prescribe a light intensity of at least 10.000 mcd in order to supersede the few existing illuminating handpieces possessing an inadequate lighting performance and in part undesirable shadow formation. This specification can be fulfilled and even exceeded with three LEDs of the newest generation. Arranged in triangular form on the spray head, any shadow formation is prevented and bright lighting is assured.
Lengthy test series with new micro feed pumps from the medical technology sector have led to the conception of a new spray family in a new outfit, with diverse features and convincing technology, provided as standard design as well as in LED design.
The wet and the dry technologies are combined in one system in an innovative and comfortable way. A mounting version and a stand- alone version can be provided in the future. This new combination is distinguished by the clear, modern mode of operation – exclusively by means of soft keys – as well as by a large display with digits and graphic symbols. The total concept sets new standards.
Onwards to new goals. The expansion course supersedes the previous production range. New challenges from the wellness and physiotherapeutic areas have been accepted. Besides a studio version with integrated support for the CO2 gas cylinder, a compact portable option also appeared.
In the meantime, the perspectives of Unitronic GmbH are proceeding further into the fields of wellness technology and physiotherapeutic equipment. This is why there is the requirement for a brand name for this product group.
In the various fields specified above, Unitronic GmbH defines itself as one of the few manufacturers that not only carries out the entire development of both electronic components and of the mechanical components on the corporate premises, it also assembles the electronic PCBs and carries out the entire assembly extending to the finished device. High flexibility, consistent reliability and punctuality, as well as rapid service have always been the reasons for our growing success in just about all European countries and in some countries overseas.
After introducing the spray handpiece with LED in 2010, now this LED lighting technology with 3 powerful LEDs of the latest generation is also compatible with our handpieces with integrated aspiration.
The LEDs are infinitely dimmable and provide efficient, very helpful illumination of the work area without any shading. This technology is registered with the German Patent and Trademark Office as a utility model under the number 20 2013 104 317.6.
Our experience over years in design combined with the latest insights of modern podiatry are leading to the development of the OPUS – series, representing high-end, innovative and independent design. A special feature is the new, infinitely dimmable LED handpiece with integrated aspiration, which is compatible with the OPUS device.
Mesoporation is a very innovative and effective method in the field of dermaceutical and aesthetic cosmetic treatments and has therefore been accepted as a further challenge to continue our expansion course to wellness and physiotherapeutic areas.
The beautyTRONIC Mesopro generates rapid, electrical impulses to increase the absorption capacity of the skin by a hundredfold and thus applied active ingredients can practically penetrate the skin cells entirely.
For the first time, a compelte series of podiatry drills with integrated aspiration is not only equipped with a brushless motor in the handpiece but also with a brushless turbine in the controller.
The top model of this new series, called “SINUS”, has a touch display as special feature, a further innovation beside the fully brushless motor technology.
The LED handpiece with integrated aspiration, which has been developed in the previous year is also compatible with this new series.
Our new device series with integrated spray combines a high performance compressor with a new medicinal pump technique to ensure finest nebulous spray, which is stageless adjustable. In addition, the level of the spray intensity can be adapted to the individual needs of the podiatrist.
Of course, our proven LED lighting technology with 3 powerful LEDs of the latest generation is compatible with this new series of spray devices.
By obtaining the DIN EN ISO 13485:2012 certificate Unitronic GmbH is able to expand its strategic direction and market opportunities on the medical technology sector. A continuous process of improvement ensures that production and operations are well structured according to the standards of DIN EN ISO 9001:2008 and DIN EN ISO 13485:2012.
